WVUA 23 is a competitive professional commercial television station in the nation’s top 50 markets where students and professionals work together to achieve the highest standards in electronic communication and community service.
WVUA 23 produces local news and public affairs broadcast by both professional and student members of the department. This allows students to learn from professionals on what it takes to serve the community in local news.
Professionals and students work side-by-side producing 17 local newscasts each week with newscasts Monday thru Friday at 5 pm and 6 pm, and Monday thru Sunday at 10 pm. In addition to the regularly scheduled newscasts, the WVUA 23 website, Facebook, Twitter and other social media applications are used to inform the public.
WVUA 23 is also home to sports programmings such as Tider Insider, Crimson Tide Kickoff, Football Friday, Crimson Cover and many special features covering Alabama Athletics.
Our broadcast signal can be seen across the Central Alabama Region throughout the Birmingham DMA on cable, alternative delivery systems and beyond the DMA with our over the air signal.
Our broadcast antenna is located on Red Mountain in Birmingham and we reach into the homes of an estimated 1.8 million viewers in the Birmingham market and up to 3 million viewers within the larger broadcast signal.
